AWESOME HIMALAYAS!! (9 - 27 Oct 2006)

It was an AWESOME 18 days in NE India and the Himalayas!! Our team of five from Singapore went expecting that much would be required of us...and much was demanded - both spiritually and physically. We acknowledge the prayerful support every one of you provided as the team engaged the "enemy" head-on, especially in Bhutan and Nepal, the very seats of Satan's deception in the form of Buddhism and Hinduism. At OTS (Oriental Theological Seminary) - this is the premier Bible seminary in NE India - we had a great time of ministry among the students and faculty... All classes were closed for the seminary's community to participate fully in the "spiritual adventure" we had planned. The theme was "The Awesomeness of God". The move of the Holy Spirit was evident as many students were moved to tears as they were challenged to reflect upon God's awesome work and calling in both their studies and future ministry. OTS Principal, Dr Wati, usually a man of few words, remarked: "Truly, we experienced a powerful move of the Spirit these two days. Those who needed His touch received it, and our school is really blessed by your ministry with us." TWO DAYS IN ASSAM We visited two villages in Assam, just beyond the border with Nagaland. At one of the Rengma villages, we were the first "foreigners" to visit the people. We identified a possible venue for a medical mission SEED hopes to organise next year. Discussions were held with the local church and village leaders about the needs of the people, and what such a mission would entail. SILIGURI (HIMALAYAN PRAYER CONFERENCE) Then it was time to board the train from Dimapur (Nagaland) to Siliguri (West Bengal). This was our first experience of travelling on an Indian train. After an overnight passage, we changed trains at Guwahati and beheld the sight of crowds upon crowds of people sleeping on the station platform (previously just a picture in the media). It was another eight hours train ride before we reached Siliguri - altogether more than 16 hours on the Indian railway. The HPC was held at a Catholic facility and was well attended by more than 120 pastors and denominational leaders from all over the region. The thrust of the conference was to stir the participants to catch the vision of the 80 million souls to be reached in the Himalayas. Teams from USA, Philippines and Thailand joined us to minister to the delegates. Allan spoke a powerful message on the need to "Move from Supplication to Declaration" in our prayer life, if we want to see God's Kingdom established on this earth, and His will be done. Meanwhile, Eleanor, Foong Kheng and Rebecca separately conducted a very fruitful seminar for Sunday School teachers and people involved in Children's ministry. Much was passed on to the locals, who never seemed to receive enough of the teaching - they are already asking for another seminar next year! BHUTAN (JAIGON & PHUENTSHOLING) An intended visit to Pastor Kunzang, his family and church that SEED is supporting turned out to be a full-blown series of meetings attended by more than 100 believers and leaders from the Sharchokpa churches of Bhutan. We had evangelistic meetings, revival meetings, healing services and teaching all squeezed into two and a half days. One evening, we even had a prayer walk around one of the large Buddhist temples in Phuentsholing. After a time of prayerful preparation, our team of five was joined by Rev G. Khing and his team from Asia Soul Winners, as we mingled with the Buddhist adherents who were walking around the temple and turning the gigantic "prayer wheels". We clasped salt in our hands and began sprinkling the grounds as a prophetic act of cleansing the land of its sin and defilement. We symbolically encircled the powers of darkness and prophetically declared Bhutan free to receive the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We prayed for, and the Lord confirmed, with several instances of healing and deliverance. At the close of the three days of meetings, all participants dedicated ourselves to boldly preach the Gospel in this Buddhist kingdom and we claimed Bhutan for Christ. The organiser of these meetings, Pastor Kunzang Tenzin, later reported in an email: "Thank you so much for your ministry here. Our believers are now so much revitalized with the passion for the lost." NEPAL Then it was a full day of travelling - first overland from Bhutan to the border of Nepal & West Bengal, to catch a domestic flight to Kathmandu; then change flights to Pokhara which is west of the capital. But what we saw of the Annapurna Ranges (there are four) made all that travel worthwhile. Wisely, our itinerary provided for five full days in Nepal. What had been beautiful pictures of the Himalayas, now became AWESOME sights that our eyes were privileged to behold! The majestic snow-capped mountain ranges had lush green forest as their beautifully contrasting foreground. Powerful rivers of cold refreshing water poured down from the mighty Machhapuchhre (Fish Tail mountain), the Ghandruk and Sarangkot, winding their life-giving nectar through valleys that were dotted by villages which drew sustenance from the many streams and tributaries. One has to be there to really drink in all that AWESOMENESS - "…then sings my soul, my Saviour God to thee: HOW GREAT THOU ART" Four days in Pokhara again included the whole gamut of ministry. Drawing on every ounce of resource we could muster, we did teaching in the day sessions; evangelistic meetings and healing services both in the afternoons and evenings; we did sessions to challenge the believers to fulfill the Great Commission; we did leadership training; serving Holy Communion; and to top it all – we conducted a baptismal service for 15 people in the icy waters of a river in the early hours of the morning (to avoid attention from the authorities). The line of people seeking healing seemed endless, but God is faithful to His Word and we witnessed many miracles (read Pastor Akashe's emails for testimonies of some of the miracles that the Lord did through us as He promised). Physically, we were glad when ministry ended on the 17th day of our mission, but it was such an AWESOMELY powerful mission! The fruits of the seeds that were planted is already being reaped where we had been used of the Lord. And all because YOU, our faithful intercessors and supporters, stood with the team. Your prayers, encouragement and giving made all these possible - surely, we ALL will have precious gifts to present to Jesus at His great Judgement Seat. All glory and praise belong to our King of Kings and, on behalf of the team (Richard, Eleanor, Foong Kheng, Rebecca & me) I want to say: "THANK YOU" dear PIPS and friends from the bottom of my heart – you were with us all the way #--#--#--#--#--#--#--#--#--#--#--#--#--#--#--#--#--#--#--#--#--#--#--#--#--#--#--#--#--#-- TESTIMONIES - From Nepal after Revival Meetings Date: Tue, 31 Oct 2006 11:54:22 +0530 From: "Akash Sumi" To: allanchan@seed-ministries.org Subject: Thankyou Dear Sir as well as brother and sister, Thank you so much for having accepted the invitation to come and help us here.
